JYOTI SINGH
A reminder that design is everywhere.
Craft explorations and material-based projects that shaped my design foundation.
INTARSIO
Recontextualizing of the handmade terracotta inlaid tiles
For the degree project, I was seeking an opportunity to work with Ceramics. The six-month internship at the ORVI Design Studio provided me with the initial brief of designing a collection of handmade tiles for interior/exterior spaces. The idea is to promote terracotta and design innovative tiles inspired by its history around the world.
This project aims to generate awareness about the rich history of terracotta tiles amongst the people and bring in the aesthetics of living and working in spaces endowed with terracotta tiles.

NAQQASHI
A timeless craft from Lucknow
Hidden away in the busy lanes of Lucknow is the Shukla market of Yahiyaganj where a handful of craftsmen are busy beating utensils into treasures. The age-old craft of naqqashi has prevailed in the city since the last 200 years and holds a great significance in the culture and heritage of this city. The shrill noises of the metal can be heard even before stepping into the narrow lanes and once inside the market all one can experience is a gush of enthusiastic sellers, buyers and craftsmen bringing the craft to life.

GRIH PRAVESHAM
A digital Housewarming Invitation.
A dear friend’s Grih Pravesham became an opportunity to translate emotion into design. I created this invitation to reflect the warmth, gratitude, and excitement of starting a new chapter, blending traditional Indian motifs with a minimal, modern layout. It was a small but meaningful project that reminded me how design can make even the simplest moments feel special.

MATERIAL
EXPLORATIONS
Before pixels and interfaces, design for me began with my hands — shaping clay, bending wire, stitching fabric, and experimenting with materials to understand how they behave and what they can become. This ongoing series documents those explorations — moments of curiosity, discovery, and craft that continue to inform how I think about design today.
